GEMS19090: Quiet Catalyst

GEMS19090

"Long before the hills of Araku were known for their world-class coffee, this 60-year-old coffee veteran began coffee farming on his one-acre plot in 2000, when a government body encouraged farmers to grow coffee. He converted previously agricultural land into a coffee plot by planting silver oak.

When others were unsure, he stepped forward, and when the market felt unfair and distant, he chose a different path, becoming one of the first to place trust in Naandi, a system that guaranteed fair pricing and dignity in 2008.
What followed was the transformation in his coffee plot, livelihood, and community. His journey evolved from his responsibility as a coffee farmer to a board and branch member in SAMTFMACS, motivating farmers across villages to adopt regenerative practices.

Today, 35 farmer families in his village follow his lead. As his home rose from coffee income, so did his legacy. His son now walks the same path, learning from him, and the farmer watches on with pride – as the next generation takes root in the same soil, carrying forward both knowledge and purpose. Coffee is no longer merely a crop. It's about pride, community, and continuity.
