Soil Secrets: Complex, citrus, fig, dried fruit, raisin

GEMS 5153

Korra Sathi Babu and Kamalamma embarked on a transformative journey with Naandi Foundation two years ago. Their three-acre coffee plot, perched on a steep slope behind their humble abode, bears witness to the symbiotic relationship between soil and coffee.

Year-round, rich mulch from a variety of forest and shade trees decomposes, infusing the soil with vital nutrients and teeming microbial life. Complemented by compost and bio-inputs, the soil becomes a rich source of nourishment, enhancing the vitality of their coffee bushes. “Now, the soil dons a rich black hue”, reflects Sathi Babu.

The result is a marked difference in the health and productivity of their plot. As coffee thrives amidst this nurturing environment, the resulting microlot has notes of spice, blood orange, red grape and pineapple.

Coffee Description

International jury cupping notes: This coffee presents a delightful combination of flavors. Notes of chocolate and spice intertwine, while the brightness of blood orange and crispness of red grape add complexity. A hint of pineapple lends a tropical twist, complemented by a clean and sweet profile. Undertones of tomato and prune provide depth, with a lingering finish reminiscent of caramel apples.
