GEMS19007: Transforming Young Lives

GEMS19007

"This young farmer began as a bystander at many of Naandi’s training sessions and meetings. It was this peripheral knowledge, combined with being surrounded by a distinct coffee-growing culture, that motivated him to begin his regenerative agriculture journey in 2017.

While his harvest in the very first year was minuscule with degraded soils, it did not stop him and his wife from dedicating themselves to transforming their coffee plot. Today, after nine years, their plot boasts of soil rich with organic matter and presence of earthworms, and healthier bushes yielding almost 4 kg of juicier cherries per bush.

The impact is the tremendous transformation in their coffee plot, the security of a stable income source and also the recognition that has come with being part of the ARAKU brand globally. “It is truly an unbelievable feeling. Never did we imagine that our coffee would cross the borders of our country.”

Life has come a full circle for this young couple - from being bystander in the meetings before joining Naandi, to becoming a full-fledged regenerative agriculture coffee advocate, they are contributing to the ever-expanding culture of regenerative agriculture in Araku.
