In 2016, after her husband’s passing, Neelamma embarked on her solo coffee journey. Tending to her modest plot of coffee interwoven with pepper, forest and fruit trees, she has single-handedly cultivated a microlot with a distinctive flavour profile boasting hints of coconut, melon, pineapple, sugarcane and caramel.
"We, farmers of Araku, know two things well - how to produce quality coffee and how to work hard for it," Neelamma affirms. In a short duration, she has been able to produce superior red ripe cherries, contributing to Naandi's Red Truck Revolution. These trucks were introduced in the region to symbolise quality and create homogenous quality standards. The arrival of the Red Trucks signifies the village's achievement in producing top-quality crimson coffee cherries.
Neelamma's resilience and unwavering determination shine through, inspiring those around her. Her optimism radiates hope for a brighter future in every cup brewed from her labour of love.
