The farmer community of village Labjari lives 65 kms away from Araku’s Coffee Processing Unit, making it one of the farthest villages in the region. The village is home to the Kodhu community – a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) with low socio-economic development. There is no phone signal or proper roads and this extreme isolation was bridged with nothing but coffee.
Our model coffee farmer from the village is Korra Ramaya, who takes great pride in beating the odds and creating new avenues for growth via premium coffee production. Coffee procurement started only in 2017 and as the farmers opened up to welcome the ‘outside’, the community is thriving with a consistent source of income via annual bumper coffee crops.
